LAST YEAR This past fall was super busy, with rehearsals, performances, and recordings shuffled together. From October to December, I spent much of my time with my LA Master Chorale pals at Disney Hall, singing a slew of large works by some stellar composers:
Philip Glass • Reena Esmail • Gabriel Ortiz • Morten Lauridsen
Billy Childs • Esa-Pekka Salonen • Maurice Ravel
Closing it out was a lovely holiday program of pieces by composers from The Americas, North through South. Amidst all of that, I squeezed in a few audiobook recording sessions, finishing the last of the Secrets of the Sky trilogy, a middle-grade series by author Sayantani DasGupta. Overall, it was a lot of languages and meter changes, which required a lot of brain power. Fun times!
THIS YEAR I’m really excited about a new series I’ll be hosting, called Songs & Stories, highlighting vocalists in the Bay Area – friends and colleagues whose work I admire. Part concert, part conversation, each guest will sing some songs and share their stories. The audience will get to ask a few questions, and we’ll end with a duet. Kicking off the series will be jazz singer Tiffany Austin (fellow SoCal gal and LACHSA alum!) on Sunday Jan 21 at 5pm. Come join us at Piedmont Piano Company in Oakland! Seating is limited, so buy your tickets early.
